NGC 891 - The Virtual Telescope - Bellatrix Astronomical Observatory


	NGC 891 - And Click on the image above for the highest resolution NB: this is a new version of this image, released on Nov. 30, 2011, using 36, 300-sec unguided images. Floating in space at about 30 millions of light years from us, NGC 891 is superb edge-on spiral galaxy, discovered in 1784 by W. Herschel. Dust across the disk is clearly apparent in this picture, grabbed with the PW17 unit, part of the Virtual Telescope Project. A total of 36 exposures, with 5 minutes of integration each, were averaged. Images were unguided, completely trusting the Paramount ME mount. The CCD camera is a SBIG STL-6303E. The image scale is of 0.78 "/pixel.
