Ganymede eclipses Europa: truly rare!

The player will show in this paragraph

This amazing movie was made using a great number of images collected with the main instruments available as part of Virtual Telescope Project, at dawn on Aug 12, 2009.

It shows Ganymede (left) and Europa (right), with the latter moving to the former, finally jumping into Ganymede shadow. This is why Europa, after fading, seems to completely disappear, while still apart from Ganymede. Then, Europa recovers from the eclipse, going in conjunction with Ganymede, later appearing again.

In short, this is a solar eclipse seen from a different place of the Solar System!
