"Everybody's Universe"
[Coming in April 2010, stay tuned!] ** Now Live! ** During the International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009), the Virtual Telescope offered a huge number of events to help people from all around the globe exploring the Cosmos. More than 50 events, hosting about 130,000 individuals form more than 140 different Countries. We also proudly partnered with with Astronomers Without Borders to offer a remote, long-term observing project, sharing commons goals and ideas. And we are going to enjoy the Global Astronomy Month (April 2010). But more is coming! At the Virtual Telescope we want to support your interest in the sky, discovering its many treasures, pushing your imagination to the stars. After all that is "Everybody's Universe"! Since we started working on our "Everybody's Universe" program, we focused on developing Countries and those Communities ready to take benefits from our remote technology to discover the many wonders of the Heavens. And now we are ready to start this project, offering a chance to people worldwide to use cutting-edge technology for their own enjoyment of the Heavens. So far, we received inquiries from: Colombia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, USA, Venezuela, Rwanda, Azerbajian, Iran, India, Indonesia and many more. We are now starting to accommodate requests from hospitals and prisons, everywhere someone is wondering about the beauty of the sky. The idea is to offer our robotic, remotely accessible telescopes at no costs, to support astronomical activities in foreign Countries and help disabled persons or those unable to access, for a number of reasons. The Virtual Telescope provides a number of benefits: you can easily access a powerful, remote observing facility from home; you can access a sky invisible othervise from your location; you can observe during your daytime; you can enjoy cutting-edge technologies, showing how modern astronomy "works"; you can track true and amazing astrophysical objects and phenomena... and much more. All what is needed is a computer and an Internet connection. You also have the support of our team of professional astrophysicists (we speak English).
We are now happy to announce that we are going to start two programs in this framework: a) “Stars under your feet”: discover the northern sky from the southern hemisphere; Details on both programs will be available soon [late in March 2010]!
