M97 - The Virtual Telescope - Bellatrix Astronomical Observatory


	M97 - UMa Click on the image above for the highest resolution Among the stars of Ursa Major, an "Owl" is lurking. This is the wonderful Messier 97 planetary nebula, also nicknamed after the mentioned bird for its typical shape by Lord Rosse. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. This image was obtained with the PW17 unit, part of the Virtual Telescope Project. A total of 12 exposures, with 5 minutes of integration each, were averaged. Images were unguided, completely trusting the Paramount ME mount. The CCD camera is a SBIG STL-6303E. The image scale is of 0.9"/pixel. Date: 7 Feb. 2011.
